The Tale of Desperaux. by Kate DiCamillo
Chapters 1 to 5:
A mouse was born inside the walls of a castle. He is an unusual mouse, to small, opened eyes and a huge ears. His mom assumes that he will not live. "All that work for nothing" she said. She named him Despereaux because he was the only mouse who does not die at birth.
Despereaux gets older, his brother Furlough explains to him how important it is to move quickly and watch for danger, but he does not listen instead he discover the beautiful light shinning.
Without his brother and sister lessons, he wanders around the castle, reading over and over the story about the Knight and the Princess Pea.
He hears the "the honey sweet sound" Despereaux forgot the most elemental mice rules about to reveal himself to humans and also he forgot all his fear, he exposed himself enchanted by the music.
The mouse fell in love with the Princess Pea...

A few notes:
-Despereaux's mother named him that because he was so weak and a "despair". It was as if she didn't have hope for him.
-Also, the story he reads isn't necessarily about Princess Pea, but about fictional princess. He meets Princess Pea--the King's daughter.
